Six Week Check In

Eric and I have officially been living in our tiny home for six (or seven) weeks now, and we still love each other! We love our house too. It's been an eventful month and then some, with busy work schedules, travel and vacation, but we've managed to spend some time at the house and working on the house. There's still a laundry list of projects ahead, but here's a little bit about what we've accomplished so far.

Unpacking
Anyone who has moved knows what a chore unpacking is. Imagine unpacking in under 250 square feet. There's no extra room to let things pile up or hang til later when you can get to them. As such, we were furiously unpacking our first couple of weeks in the house to get things in order and make the space livable. Believe it or not, there was a lot to unpack! Also, we had to continue to sort out what could go in the storage unit and what should stay in our storage loft. Everything is now unpacked and has a place of its own in the tiny house.

Organizing
In a tiny house, organization is key. We are still figuring out the organization of our place, but have navigated the organization process pretty well so far. We've had to figure out some innovative and clever storage solutions to keep everything put away. Amazon has been a god send for all our storage needs! Of note is a pot holder for our pots, pans and cutting boards that is stored in the kitchen cabinets and allows us to make use of the whole space. We've organized the storage loft so that there is plenty of room for the cats to walk around and relax up top. My shoes have been nicely stored in baskets underneath the TV. I am still working on organizing our "desk drawer", as well as the pantry. The pantry is a little challenging to access at the moment, but Eric has a plan to make items in the pantry a bit more accessible, which will be really helpful!

Handywork
Eric has been busy sprucing up our home and has completed several cool projects. We installed an old-fashioned lock on our bathroom door for added privacy. Eric also added hinges to a cabinet door in the kitchen which was accessible from inside the cabinets, but a little challenging to access. Now you can open the door from  the outside and easily get to everything. Eric also built me a little extra shelf inside some of our larger cabinets, which has provided some good storage for dishes. Finally, we cut the ladder the builder provided to access the storage loft so that we can leave it up all the time, but it doesn't take up as much room. We have plans to build a collapsible dining table so that we'll be able to eat inside and not on the couch. We're still figuring out the best way to do this.

Decorating
The walls have been transformed from plain old tongue and groove siding, to an array of travel, cat, beer and bike-themed decor. We got some funky shelves for the living room and glassware storage shelves for the kitchen. I also ordered an adorable key holder from Etsy! Another favorite new piece of mine is the antique soap holder I bought for the bathroom sink. I thought it was a little different and went with the farmhouse theme...and farm that we live on! We still have a few decorations in the works, including curtains for the windows and front door. We've had a lot of sunshine this summer and curtains will be great to control the light coming in - oh yeah, and for privacy!

Outdoor space
The newest addition to our tiny home is our brand new grill! We used to grill at the apartment and had to get one in time for summer. Plus, we'll be put it to good use at our housewarming party last weekend!

As you can see, we're six + weeks in and have made great progress on making our house our home. We've still got a ways to go, but we're enjoying our space and love making it truly "Gezellig".

Stay tuned for future updates on our progress!
